Detritus
2017

Detritus are the scraps of over production, packaging, single use items, clothing, flotsam and jetsam of the ocean. On a daily walk along a Hong Kong beach these are the objects the ocean has deposited back. These things discarded in the environment become compelling because of the actions of the environment, grinding and softening them into new peculiar shapes, colours and textures. Collections of found objects became the colour reference for the works with some used directly in the work.

Fragments of painted canvases were joined deliberately creating uncomfortable juxtapositions. The heightened colour and unease in the works are intended to highlight the peril we have inflicted on the ocean.
